On Being Overwhelmed

Last week, I was talking with my rockstar work friend, a partner in a VC firm. She is simply awesome. I asked her how she manages her time efficiently, especially since she just had a baby and quickly returned to work. She said, "I am following a very simple rule."

So here is the rule:

Whatever is on your "to-do" plate, you should first ask yourself these three simple questions:

  • Does it make me money?
  • Will I learn something?
  • Does it make me happy?

If none of these apply, feel free to say NO.

  • Carve out some time for life admin and replying to messages each day.
  • The rest will follow depending on your capacity, all the external asks, and other activities.

Makes sense.

Othership: This guided breathwork app is very popular among my friends from SF. After hearing so much about breathwork, I've attended several sessions in class and used this app. It truly helps you change your state with every breath.

This app helps you use your breath to manage your energy, thoughts, and feelings. It's like a daily routine that can boost your day with energy, improve focus, and help you let go of negative emotions. You can do this for as short or as long as you like.

Othership has also opened physical locations to expand its influence further. Now, in NYC and Toronto, you can try the immersive saunas and ice baths, literally everything you need to stay sane and focused.

Your free sessions to try are HERE.

Goodreads is a site for people who love books.

When you have a Goodreads account, you can create a list of the books you've read, the ones you're reading, and the ones you want to read. You can also see what books your friends and favourite authors are reading, write reviews, and comment on other people's reviews.

Goodreads also helps you discover new books. They have lists of books and detailed pages for each book. I have been using the website since 2016; you can share your Kindle highlights and quotes and see what your friends are reading.

My profile and books are here.

I recently discovered the Bookshelf website. It allows you to create a free interactive bookshelf imported from your Goodreads list. You can add favourite quotes, visualize books, and share them on social media.

How to Start Angel Investing

A few friends asked me, "How do I start?" It's a long topic, but why don't we start with a few useful links? ;)

I run a VC firm, so I might be biased here, but the best way to start investing is to shadow someone else. This could be another angel, a VC firm investing in pre-seed/seed stage companies (hi, Pretiosum team!), or an angel syndicate.

Let me know if you have questions or want me to cover this topic more in future issues!
