#11 | Less, More, and None | Kickstarter for Inspiration

  1. Personal:

I appreciate the "LESS, MORE, AND NONE" concept proposed by Jacoby Young. He initially suggested this idea for creating a list that categorizes activities a person wants to do less often, more often, or not at all. I think it's an excellent idea and I plan to implement it.

Less

  • Spending time on the phone
  • Delaying replies to people (I've optimized my inbox and communication)
  • Consuming food I don't enjoy
  • Using social media
  • Reading low-quality information

More

  • Daily gym workouts
  • Reviving my Chinese language
  • Writing: Starting this newsletter helped me realize how much I enjoy sharing my tips and tricks with subscribers. I plan to do more of this.
  • Cooking: I enjoy home-cooked meals when I'm not traveling.
  • Achieving my OKRs for this year
  • Breathing exercises
  • Spending quality time with friends, preferably outdoors
  • Engaging in creativity and culture
  • Playing charades (If we're friends, you know!)

None

  • Sweets and bread
  • Staying up late - I'm aiming to restore my sleep schedule this year
  • Late-night meals
  • Charging my phone by my bed
  • Keeping my phone near me during deep work
  1. App:

Kickstarter: A place full of inspiration! It's a crowdfunding platform where ideas come to life. If you have a creative idea but lack funds, you can share it with a community. If they approve, you get funded! I love it because it hosts a range of projects from art, comics, fashion, food, design, and journalism to tech gadgets.

It could also be a great place to find unique gift ideas!

Example of tech gadgets you might never heard of (yet)
You can find anything on Kickstarter, even design tags for your house's WiFi
You can launch and fund your magazine
  1. Media:

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius: We all have days when we question ourselves, our work, and even our very existence. What I find helpful is reading philosophy. Sometimes it's so profound or complex that it immediately draws you away from your daily distractions. Meditations provides a series of insightful spiritual reflections and exercises. These were created as the emperor worked to understand himself and the world around him - indeed, we all, even an emperor, face the same challenges;)

My favorite quotes:

“Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”

“Do not indulge in dreams of having what you have not, but reckon up the chief of the blessings you do possess, and then thankfully remember how you would crave for them if they were not yours.”

"Do every act of your life as though it were the very last act of your life.”

“Whenever you are about to find fault with someone, ask yourself the following question: What fault of mine most nearly resembles the one I am about to criticize?”

“It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own.”

“When another blames you or hates you, or people voice similar criticisms, go to their souls, penetrate inside, and see what sort of people they are. You will realize that there is no need to be racked with anxiety that they should hold any particular opinion about you.”

“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.”

“Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now, take what's left and live it properly. What doesn't transmit light creates its darkness.”

  1. Events:
  • The Boat Race: This world-renowned competition between Oxford and Cambridge Universities takes place in London. The Boat Race happens between Putney and Mortlake. | London | 30th March
  • Cheltenham Festival: Horse racing event. | London | 12th-15th March
  • Locals.org: A useful app for discovering social or industry-specific meetups in whenever you are!

As always, I'm super excited to hear your feedback on Instagram (@yana_pretiosum) or Twitter (@yana_vc). Do you have a favorite bullet point from above? Or perhaps you have some other cool suggestions? I can't wait to hear from you!

Have a wonderful week ahead,

Yana
