#27 | Investor Outreach Rules | Ego is the Enemy | Your Dream Week Template

Personal:

Secrets to Successful Investor Outreach

In the last issue, we talked about where to find tech people and investors in your city. Today, let's talk about reaching out to investors. I recently had a chat with Seedlegals about this topic. You can read the full article here.

It comes down to three methods below:

  • Cold outreach - Direct messaging unfamiliar investors
  • Inbound - Investors initiate contact
  • Warm intros - Meeting via mutual contacts or in-person

Rules to remember:

  • Know your investor (and the stage/geography/industry in which they are investing)
  • Make it personal
  • Keep it simple (everyone is a bit lazy, including investors)
  • Show some traction
  • Call to action

Once Upon: This might not be groundbreaking technology, but it's an app perfect for birthdays and friends/family events.

If you constantly struggle to decide what gift to give a friend on their birthday, this app is a great choice. It helps keep memories alive by turning digital photos into physical albums!

P.S. Seen a cool product or brand? Are you working on something? Let me know - you might get featured :)

Media:

"There is no ego in business." I recently heard these words from someone I deeply respect.

So true.

Ego can ruin business partnerships and personal relationships, bringing nothing but harm to our lives.

I came across a fantastic book by Ryan Holiday, "Ego is the Enemy". Buy HERE.

It's a great read if you're an over-achiever and want to set your priorities right.

Keep calm and carry on😉

Best Quotes:

“Impressing people is utterly different from being truly impressive.”
“Your potential, the absolute best you’re capable of—that’s the metric to measure yourself against. Your standards are. Winning is not enough. People can get lucky and win. People can be assholes and win. Anyone can win. But not everyone is the best possible version of themselves.”
“Almost universally, the kind of performance we give on social media is positive. It’s more ‘Let me tell you how well things are going. Look how great I am.’ It’s rarely the truth: ‘I’m scared. I’m struggling. I don’t know.”
“In this course, it is not ‘Who do I want to be in life?’ but ‘What is it that I want to accomplish in life?’ Setting aside selfish interest, it asks: What calling does it serve? What principles govern my choices? Do I want to be like everyone else or do I want to do something different?”
“Just because you are quiet doesn’t mean that you are without pride. Privately thinking you’re better than others is still pride. It’s still dangerous.”
“The more difficult the task, the more uncertain the outcome, the more costly talk will be and the farther we run from actual accountability.”
“Ego needs honours in order to be validated. Confidence, on the other hand, is able to wait and focus on the task at hand regardless of external recognition.”
